Solution
You can use Leapfish.com and other free appraisal tools to get a general idea of how the marketplace may respond to a domain name. Many of these instant appraisal systems do use a good Quantative formula for evaluating domain names. They provide a good general guide, but you cannot "take any appraisal to the bank".
The expert appraisals will be more accurate because they'll compare the domain with similar, recent domain sales. This process is much like the appraisal process for physical real estate.
